Astrology vs Astrology

New Years Day, I woke up and bought this domain. It was an easy win for my 2026 Goals which included “Start Astrology Side Hustle.” $300 – check! Done. Cross it off the list.

From there, I guess I just kinda waited for people to show up. Chalk it up to my Venus centricity – an expectation that my needs will simply be met by opening my hand and distinctively clearing my throat. A cosmic “Open Sign” vibing in the atmosphere.

It’s not to say I wasn’t busy. I finished an apprenticeship program at the Forrest Center for Evolutionary Astrology. The program was fascinating! Generally speaking, Steven Forrest’s brand of Evolutionary Astrology draws heavily from the principle of reincarnation and explores past lives through the lens of the karmic balance indicated by the North and South nodes of the Moon.

Most free chart programs will show you your North Node, also known as Mean Node or True Node (there is a mathematical difference between the two, though I have a bias towards Mean Node if only because the Math is Math-ier).

The glyph of the North Node (NN) looks a bit like a horseshoe, some see an archway, some say it looks like if the Leo symbol got its shit together, while others see a flipped up bob hairdo.

Rule of thumb – Leo looks like Ariana Grande, North Node is Linda Belcher.

Your South Node is 180° from the NN, an equal and opposite point both in math and in meaning. The South Node (SN), by house and sign, represents the soul’s karma; the inherited disaster boxes of previous lifetimes. The ADHD disaster box is actually the perfect metaphor for SN karma. Not everything in a disaster box is inherently trash. Sure, there’s some trash in there but plenty more of it is perfectly fine treasure that just need some attention, a little cleaning up, and a given home.

By contrast, The North Node is what you don’t have or what the soul wants you to pursue. When we grapple for purpose and meaning in our lives, any astrological point can offer you an answer. The Sun will crown your ego and Mars will do it’s bidding. The rational of us can allow Mercury to logic us to safety. The Moon will soothe your worries while Venus breathes delightful euphoria into your lungs… All things personal, all cures to the ‘I am’ of the self which, in this life, is pretty-much driving the whole show but is lacking some intangible thing that’s deeper but no less important.

The North Node is our “why?” Equal and opposite, the South Node is our “here’s what we know…” Steven Forrest’s Yesterday’s Sky does a marvelous job showcasing the practicality of his work. It addresses the danger and presumptuousness of creating a narrative of person’s karma through use of the Lunar Nodes yet never diminishes the importance of staying open-minded enough to give it a chance.

With that said, Evolutionary Astrology won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. Even in the Woo-Woo community, everyone has lines they won’t cross, at least not without an argument.

That’s the bit that really got me thinking: Evolutionary Astrology is just one type of Astrology; of the innumerable forms or specialties, what Astrology do I do?

I came into this study at a time when I didn’t feel like I could trust my head or my heart on any of my decisions about who I was or where my life was heading. Even the notion of where I wanted my life to go was out of reach. The opposite of unimaginable, though, as I was just flooded with so many reasonable, attractive choices.

We live in a world full of choices but I don’t think we hear it enough that we also live in a world full of meaning. Bringing Astrology into my life has allowed for a far richer experience, adding layers of meaning to everyone I meet and turning the mundane mythical.

Best of all, your natal chart meets you where you are, showing the core human being you were born as. No ulterior motives, no gimmicks or product placement or commercialism, just naked self in astoundingly simple terms. It’s what I needed to find the me that I buried under all my decisions. The understanding of how I block myself or find myself in the same tropey predicaments again and again. Illumination of gifts I’m either too humble, too scared, or too conditioned to recognize. It’s how I began to understand faith as Pisces NN required of me.

My astrology rooted in hope, marinated in the distilled wisdom of the timeless tradition of our collective ancestors, (garnished with my Gemini Venus), and powered by the fact that we all know the value of an objective perspective when we’re too damn close to something to make sense of it. My astrology wants you to see yourself as a world of possibilities in harmony with a world of opportunity by equipping you with the self awareness to choose your reactions instead of settling for the unconscious scripts that made us confused or lost or unhappy or curious enough to seek out an astrologer in the first place.
